Fillings are materials used to restore tooth damage caused by cavities, fractures, or other reasons. This procedure is necessary when tooth damage is significant and may not meet modern aesthetic standards. The size, color, and shape of the filling must be consistent with the natural teeth.
In the past, cavities were treated with amalgam fillings or generic restorations. Since these materials were aesthetically unsuitable and sometimes mildly toxic, modern dentistry no longer uses them.
Today, composite materials or white fillings are used to fully meet aesthetic requirements. These composite materials are durable, and the chemical bond between them and the tooth prevents bacteria from penetrating the tooth structure.
